Canvas focus keeps arrow keys for moving selected items, including GIFs and videos. Tab into GIF controls, video playback controls, or fullscreen controls to use Left / Right for media stepping. Stepping a playing item pauses it first. Jump is a fixed step every press — count presses to land a known offset.
Escape is context-sensitive — it cancels the most immediate action first, working through a priority chain from innermost to outermost:
- Active Annotation Mode tool operation (cancel current stroke) → exit Annotation Mode
- Eyedropper (cancel eyedropper, keep selection)
- Crop mode (cancel crop)
- Text editing (stop editing, keep item selected)
- In-progress import or export
- Active selection (deselect all)
- In the gallery — clear active filters
